The series presents nine eras of western civilization, from Ancient
Greece to the 20th Century, as seen through the government,
social life, religion, and artwork of each period. Animated maps
and time lines clearly define the places and periods being
discussed. Each title includes a comprehensive teacher's guide that identifies
all works of art used in the program. These guides
suggest uses for the material in history, art,and music classes.
In addition, they offer study questions, classroom activities, student projects,
historical background information, biographies of artists, narration scripts, and recommended
reading lists. Build an entire course, or select any program
for use in a cross-curricular program of study. The average
time is 41 minutes. History Through Art is also available
on CD-ROM. The CD-ROM version contains an audio-visual presentation, with
the text linked to a complete 24-volume student encyclopedia and
a glossary of important words. The programs also include many
multiple-choice questions which link either to the audio-visual presentation or
to the encyclopedia, encouraging further study. The questions can be
accessed during the presentations, or they can be grouped in
quiz formats. It is compatible with Macintosh, Windows, and MS-DOS
platforms.
