Cretacolor hard pastels
have been recognized by artists all over the world for
their brilliant colors and high pigmentation. Their square shape lends
itself well to painting both large surfaces and small details.
They are characterized by especially soft, oil-free strokes. All color
shades are mixable, wipeable, and soluble. A fixative spray coat
is recommended when hard pastels are applied to most paper
surfaces. The complete range of 72 colors includes Cretacolor'sbrown and
gray chalks in 12 shades —browns, cool and warm grays,
white, and black. These expressive art materials have traditionally been appreciated
for the variety of shades they can createin working with
the other colors. They are the same colors and pigments
available in Cretacolor Fine Art Pastel Pencils. Mixing hard pastels,
or smudging or combining them with brown and gray chalks,
can create special color effects. Experiment with water and different
paper surfaces. Hard pastels are much less dusty than soft
pastels. Square pastels are especially easy to handle and store.
Individual sticks measure 2¾" long by ¼" square(70 mm ×
6 mm). Gift Idea —Boxed sets of Pastel Carré Sticks
make great gifts. Minimum Order —Please order individual pastels (open

Holland Oil Color Factory was established in 1644 and is still continuing
its tradition; the oldest artist's paint factory in the world. These oil
paints are still manufactured according to the 16th century methods and under
the supervision of artists. The old Dutch Masters used Old Holland paint.
All of these colors are manufactured using stone rollers which don't change
the color of the paint. Only the purest virgin cold-pressed sunbleached linseed
oil is ever used. In the classic Old Holland colors no fillers
such as cheap chalk, barium sulphate, aluminum hydrate powders or wax are
used. The resulting benefits to the artist using the classic colors are
greater covering power, strength of color and the superb intensity of classic
color. The paint is packed in soft lead tubes with a thin
layer of pewter, as opposed to an aluminum tube which oxidizes within
15 years. Lead tubes last a lifetime. Since this paint consists of
pure pigments and oil as opposed to industrially manufactured paints, it cannot
be filled mechanically in tubes because the paint is too sticky. The
filling of the tubes is done by hand; tube by tube. If
Old Holland classic colors seem too strong in color mixing, try mixing
the colors with a white oil paint first.
